Project Overview

I found myself googling stuff about places during travel quite a lot lately, so I figured I can solve this problem. Traditional audio tours are rigid, boring and frankly they might not be about something you’re interested in.

Launch

I learned a ton while working on this project, not just about iOS development but also marketing, I actually learned that it’s the hardest thing out of all of them. I did launch it on Product Hunt and also on HN, but that gave no traffic. I was wondering if the so-called “initial App Store boost” would shed some light on the app, but it didn’t. So I decided to simply continue adding new cities based on demand from keyword searches. Let’s see where it goes with that strategy…

First 3 months

I saw no progress on traffic, so I decided to finally do pSEO, I figured that I can turn every point of interest and city into its own web page. After doing that I got quite some traffic and made a first sale! But then even with traffic going up daily I was not making any sales. I think at this point it does make sense to re-position or add more channels to distribute.

Another 3 months passed by

I did change the monetization of the app, and now instead of city-purchase you can purchase a travel pass for N-days but you get access to all the content we have. You can also use a “Discover” button which’ll give you 3 random facts about the place you’re currently standing (district/street). So far I sold 2 travel passes and now I’m exploring marketing. Right now I’m posting some tiktoks and see how it works, so far it was not really productive, but nevertheless it’s necessary in order to learn something and move forward.
